Our Story

Lake Hartwell Pontoon Rentals is a family owned and operated business with a personal touch. LHPR is dedicated to providing a great boat rental experience on one of South Carolina’s most stunning lakes. Owned and operated by Scott and Sherri McCloskey, their business is built on a passion for lake life and a commitment to help others enjoy being on the water, too.

Scott and Sherri began their journey on the beautiful waters of Lake Jocassee and Lake Keowee, where they successfully partnered in a pontoon rental service for several years. Recently, they relocated to Anderson, SC, with a vision to bring their expertise and love for the water to Lake Hartwell. While they continue to be involved with the rental services on Lake Jocassee and Keowee, their expansion to Lake Hartwell reflects their deep appreciation for the boating community and the love of lake life.

As owners, Scott and Sherri believe there’s no better way to spend a day than out on the water, surrounded by the beauty of nature and the company of your favorite people. Their mission is to help you create unforgettable memories with friends and family, the kind that will be cherished and talked about for years to come. When you rent with Lake Hartwell Pontoon Rentals, their goal is for you to walk away feeling like you’ve just had “the best day ever.”

Dive Into Lake Hartwell

Nestled in Georgia and South Carolina, Lake Hartwell showcases natural beauty and human ingenuity. Authorized under the Flood Control Act of 1950, the construction of Hartwell Dam and Reservoir was a pivotal moment in developing the Savannah River Basin. Originally planned with a 2,415-foot concrete dam and earth embankments, the project evolved with enhancements like larger gates and a relocated powerhouse on Georgia’s side, costing nearly $90 million.

Built by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in the 1950s, this expansive reservoir spans 56,000 acres with over 960 miles of shoreline. Named after Revolutionary War heroine Nancy Hart, it serves roles in hydroelectric power generation, flood control, and as a beloved recreational haven. Over the decades, it has flourished into a premier destination for outdoor recreation, offering activities such as leisurely cruises, fishing, and camping. Its rich history and stunning vistas invite exploration, making it a cherished retreat in the Southeast.
